CONSTRUCTION FINISHED AT GAAYIP-YAGILA PRIMARY SCHOOL

Families in Mickleham are one step closer to sending their children to Gaayip-Yagila Primary School with the construction now complete and ready for classes in 2021.

Minister for Education James Merlino, Minister for Early Childhood Ingrid Stitt and Member for Yuroke Ros Spence today announced that works have finished at the new school in Mickleham ahead of students attending in Term 1, 2021.

Students will be able to enjoy full use of two new learning precincts, a performing arts and physical education building, administration building, sports field and outdoor play courts among the new build.

This new school is part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to deliver 100 new schools between 2019 and 2026.

Cassandra Hoggins has been appointed as the first principal and is still welcoming enrolments for the school year.

The Merrifield North Multipurpose Centre being built next to the school will include a kinder, helping students makes a smooth transition from to school while making it easier for parents ditching the dreaded double drop-off. This centre is scheduled to be completed in June 2021.

Every new Victorian primary school being built from 2021 will have a kindergarten on-site or next door, to reduce the burden on parents and carers while continuing to build the Education State.

In the past five years, the Labor Government has invested more than $9 billion in more than 1,600 school upgrades – creating more than 10,000 construction jobs – and is now ahead of schedule for its commitment to open 100 new schools by 2026, with 48 new schools opening between 2019 and 2022.
