CONTRACTOR APPOINTED TO BUILD CRAIGIEBURN STATION CAR PARK

The Andrews Labor Government is more than doubling car parking at Craigieburn Station, making it easier for people living in the outer northern suburbs to find a park in the morning before catching the train.

Minister for Public Transport Melissa Horne today announced that Civilex has been appointed to deliver the works, which will bring the total number of spaces at the station to more than 1,000.

The car park will be built along the eastern edge of the Hume Highway, east of the station, and will be linked to the station via a new footpath.

It will have lighting, CCTV, multiple entry and exit points, and include new bicycle parking.

A new signalised pedestrian crossing over Potter Street will also be built so people can get from their vehicles to the station safely, and the pedestrian crossing over the railway line will be upgraded.

In total 745 new spaces are planned to be built at Craigieburn Station. 689 spaces will be delivered through the first stage of these works, with more than 50 further spaces planned to be built in the future.

The Craigieburn Station car park improvements are part of the Labor Government’s plan to increase car parking at stations to make it easier for people to catch the train.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has delivered almost 10,000 parking spaces at metropolitan and regional stations across the state, and the government is now delivering 11,000 more new and upgraded spaces.

More than 30 new parking spaces were built at Craigieburn Station in 2019. This was in addition to the 123 spaces delivered since October 2016, helping to ease congestion in the short term.
