The new Splash Aqua Park and Leisure Centre in Craigieburn has reached the halfway mark of construction.

Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the Australian Government was investing $9.1 million toward the $35.5 million aquatic centre through the National Stronger Regions Fund.

“As a mother of two boys I know how important a local pool is to a community,” Minister Nash said.

“This aquatic centre will host more than 600,000 visitors a year and create 140 jobs.

“I aim to help build the kinds of communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to and facilities like this aquatic centre do just that.”

The centre will offer a range of activities catering for all abilities through the 50 metre flexible water space, water slides, water play area, gym, steam room and spa.

Senator for Victoria Jane Hume joined the Mayor of Hume City Council Helen Patsikatheodorou for a visit of the site as works reach the halfway mark.

‘It’s wonderful to see a community facility of this scale taking shape in Craigieburn,’ Senator Hume said.

‘I strongly support the Australian Government’s commitment to regional infrastructure development and projects like this.’

Victorian Member for Yuroke Ros Spence said the Splash Aqua Park and Leisure Centre would be a fabulous place for the community to get together, for locals to embrace an active lifestyle and for kids to lean vital swimming safety skills.

“This great new facility really will have something for everyone. It’s more than just a sport and recreation hub, it’s going to play a vital role in helping local children learn to swim,” Ms Spence said.

Mayor of Hume City Council Helen Patsikatheodorou said construction of the facility is well advanced and our community is excited that it’s taking shape.

“Splash will be more than a destination; it will be an experience for the whole family.

“Whether it be reaching speeds of 50km/hr down our waterslides, getting active in our 24/7 gym or learning to swim in our pools—there will be something for the whole family.

“The new aquatic centre is Council’s biggest ever project, we’re thrilled to see the project progressing and coming together,” Cr Patsikatheodorou said.

The Craigieburn Splash Aqua Park and Leisure Centre is being funded with $9.1 million from the Australian Government, $3 million from the Victorian Government, $17.3 million from Hume City Council, $5.7 million from Stockland Pty Ltd and $360,000 from Lend Lease.
