MORE STATION CAR PARKING FOR CRAIGIEBURN

The Andrews Labor Government will build almost 750 new car parking spaces at Craigieburn Station as part of the biggest one-off boost to train station parking in Victoria’s history.

The Victorian Budget 2018/19 will provide $60 million to build 2,000 new parking spaces, deliver more secure storage facilities for cyclists and improve access for pedestrians at key stations across Melbourne.

A new car park will be built along the eastern edge of the Hume Highway, directly east of the station. It will add 745 new parking spaces at Craigieburn Station – a significant increase on the 355 spaces currently available.

Parking at Belgrave, Epping and Sandown Park stations will also be boosted, and other stations will be considered for upgrades as part of the package.

The extra spaces mean commuters will no longer clog up neighbouring streets with their cars and will free up more car parking for local traders, shoppers and residents.

The extra spaces add to the more than 3,000 new and upgraded car parks the Labor Government has built at metropolitan and regional train stations over the past three years to help more commuters get a car park when they take the train.

Sites were chosen based on current capacity and demand, available transport land and population growth area data.
