NEW NAME FOR NEW SCHOOLS REVEALED

The names of two new primary schools opening in Greenvale and Mickleham next year have now been chosen, following local community consultation.

Member for Yuroke Ros Spence today unveiled the official names for the new schools as Gaayip-Yagila Primary School, which was formerly known by its interim name of Merrifield West Primary School, and Keelonith Primary School, previously known as Greenvale North West Primary School.

The schools are among 14 new schools being built by the Andrews Labor Government and set to open in 2021.

Both facilities are currently under construction and is set to open at the beginning of the school year.

The names were chosen following community consultation and discussions with Geographic Names Victoria, with consideration given to factors including public interest, relevance to the local area, and the consideration of local indigenous languages.

Under the Andrews Labor Government’s school building boom, a total of 100 new schools will open by 2026, ensuring every child has a great local school and a great start in life.

The Andrews Labor Government has invested $7.2 billion to deliver more than 1,460 school upgrades, supporting more than 7,500 construction jobs for Victorians.

The Labor Government is building the Education State so that every student can access a great local school and get a quality education.
