PLANNING FOR A FUTURE SOMERTON ROAD UPGRADE

Planning is underway for a future Somerton Road Upgrade to improve traffic flow, safety, and travel times for road users throughout Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

The Andrews Labor Government is seeking feedback from our community to help inform planning and shape the development of design options for a future upgrade to Somerton Road.

Planning and development work underway includes traffic modelling, planning studies, environmental investigations to help understand social and ecological impacts, and to confirm the scope and costs of different options.

The Andrews Labor Government is seeking input on how people travel in the area, their views on road safety and access as well as what is important in our local community.

As part of these investigations, the project team is considering options to upgrade 4km of Somerton Road between Mickleham Road and Roxburgh Park Drive. This will also include exploring how to improve key intersections, cycling and walking paths, and safety along the road.

The planning and development work will inform a business case on a future Somerton Road Upgrade, which is anticipated to be finalised in early 2023.

This planning work supports targeted upgrades in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, with construction underway on the Craigieburn Road Upgrade, and the recent funding announcement for the Mickleham Road Upgrade.
