Adjournment: Bus Services

ADJOURNMENT MATTER — Ms Spence to ask the Minister for Public Transport —

My adjournment matter is for the attention of the Minister for Public Transport. The action I am seeking is for the minister to review the Craigieburn bus network and make the necessary changes to extend the current routes to areas that do not have public transport access. Craigieburn is the third fastest growing suburb in the country, and with that growth there is the ongoing challenge of providing public transport to an ever‑growing community. It is important that we respond to this challenge and adjust the current bus network to service these areas so local residents have improved access to employment, retail, social and education opportunities.

Answer:

I thank the Member for Yuroke for her tireless work advocating for better bus services on behalf of her community. The Andrews Labor Government has invested in improving bus networks in Victoria’s growing suburbs, providing more direct routes, introducing extra services and extending bus routes into existing areas.

I share the Member for Yuroke’s passion to provide better bus services to ensure that residents can access employment, education and social activities, particularly in areas where residents rely on bus services as the primary mode of public transport.

I have requested that Transport for Victoria reviews buses in the Craigieburn area and continues to work closely with you to understand how services can best be improved to suit the local needs of the community.
