Ms Spence (Yuroke): My adjournment matter is for the Minister for Public Transport, and the action I seek is for the minister to provide an update on the next steps to be taken in the delivery of 745 new parking spaces for Craigieburn commuters. The government’s commitment to deliver these new spaces will significantly improve access to Craigieburn station and builds on the more than 150 spaces already delivered since late 2016. With community consultation completed late last year and the concept design released in April, many residents in my electorate are eager to learn more about the next steps in delivering this much-needed additional parking. I look forward to hearing from the minister and sharing her response with my community.

The Craigieburn car park upgrade project is part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to increasing car parking at stations to improve access to public transport.

Over the past four years almost 10,000 parking spaces have been delivered at metropolitan and regional stations across the state with the government now committed to delivering an additional 11,000 spaces.

The new car park will be built along the eastern edge of the Hume Highway, directly east of the station. It will add up to 745 new parking spaces to Craigieburn Station.

The Craigieburn community has helped inform the design of the new commuter car with over 210 members of the local community having had their say about what matters most to them in the design of the new car park via an online survey late last year.

The new car park will include multiple entry/exit points, a pedestrian path to the station, a signalised pedestrian crossing over Potter Street, CCTV and lighting. There will also be new bicycle facilities for cyclists to park their bike securely at the station.

I am pleased to advise that the tender for the project is expected to be released in the coming months with construction of the project expected to be completed in mid-2020.
