Adjournment: Equestrian Pavilion

Ros SPENCE (Yuroke) (19:12:45) — (14 592) My adjournment matter is for the Minister for Sport, and the action I seek is an update from the minister as to funding opportunities that may be available to help build a new equestrian pavilion at the Greenvale Recreation Reserve. Greenvale has a proud equestrian history as the home of Living Legends, which provides a home for retired champion horses. This new pavilion would provide an outstanding opportunity to further Greenvale’s reputation as a great place for horseriding enthusiasts, and there is no better location for this facility than Greenvale Recreation Reserve, which sits at the centre of Greenvale. I look forward to hearing from the minister about opportunities to support this great project.

Response:

I refer to your adjournment debate matter regarding a new equestrian pavilion at Greenvale Recreation Reserve. Firstly, I’d like to commend you on your commitment to advocating the importance of sport and recreation in your electorate.

Providing high quality sport and recreation infrastructure is a key aim of the government, and is integral to the health and well-being of all Victorians. In April I announced a government commitment of $241 million for community sport, including $60 million for the continuation of the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund and another $15 million for the Female Friendly Facilities Fund.

The Community Sports Infrastructure Fund supports clubs and community groups who wish build or upgrade facilities and increase participation in their sport. I can confirm that Hume City Council has submitted an application to the 2019-2020 Community Sports Infrastructure Fund for equestrian facilities at Greenvale Recreation Reserve. Announcements regarding the outcome of these applications will be made later in the year.

The Hon John Eren MP
Minister for Sport
