Constituency Question: Commuter Parking

Ms SPENCE (Yuroke) (11:52:36): (154) My constituency question is to the Minister for Public Transport. What is the latest information that the minister can provide on the next steps to be taken in the development of 745 new parking spaces for Craigieburn commuters? This project was met with great excitement from the local community when it was announced in last year’s budget as part of a $60 million statewide investment. With the Yuroke electorate being one of the fastest growing communities in Victoria, station parking is a critical issue and I am thrilled that the Andrews Labor government is delivering these much-needed new spaces. I look forward to sharing the minister’s response with my constituents.

Response:

I thank the Member for her question. The new car park at Craigieburn is well advanced, with final design and planning approvals anticipated to be secured by mid-2019. Key stakeholders including Metro Trains Melbourne and Hume City Council have been consulted on the design which was also informed by a community survey held in late 2018. When designs are finalised and the necessary planning approvals are secured, VicTrack will award a contract and building will commence.

The new commuter car park at Craigieburn Station is part of the Government’s $60 million investment to deliver over 2,000 new parking spaces across Belgrave, Craigieburn, Epping, Hurstbridge, Sandown Park and Sunbury stations. In addition, the Government committed to a $150 million Car Parks for Commuters Fund as part of its 2018 election policy platform. The Fund will go towards new and upgraded car parks at some of the busiest metropolitan and regional train stations.
