Constituency Question: Greenvale Secondary School & Kalkallo Common Primary School

Ms SPENCE (Yuroke) (12:01): (1887) My constituency question is to the Minister for Education. What information can the minister provide on the next steps in delivering the new and long-awaited Greenvale Secondary School and Kalkallo Common Primary School? Following the completion of community consultation for both of these schools, many residents are eager to learn more about the next steps in delivering these new facilities before they welcome their first students at the start of the 2022 school year. Indeed in recent weeks the number of local parents that have contacted my office regarding future enrolments has been increasing. I look forward to seeing these new schools take shape, and I thank the minister for supporting improved access to education for Yuroke residents.

Response:

The Andrews Labor Government is committed to growing educational opportunities for all Victorians. We have invested more than $6.1 billion over the past five State Budgets to build new schools and modernise existing educational facilities across Victoria. We will continue with this record funding and open 100 new schools, including Greenvale Secondary School and Kalkallo Common Primary School, which will open in 2022.

Victoria is currently experiencing a significant increase in population. New educational facilities, such as these two new schools, will meet the increasing demand for student places stemming from Victoria’s growing population.

I can confirm that architects have already been appointed to design Greenvale Secondary School and Kalkallo Common Primary School. As you are aware, the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) recently undertook a community consultation process, which provided an opportunity for community members to share their ideas, local knowledge and priorities for the new school facilities.

The results of the community consultation, which included online surveys at Engage Victoria, will be provided to the architects in order to inform the design of the new schools. Designs will be publicly available on the VSBA’s website later this year.

I trust this information is of assistance.

The Hon James Merlino MP
Deputy Premier
Minister for Education
