Constituency Question: New Schools For Greenvale

Ms SPENCE (Yuroke) (11:58:57): (119) My constituency question is to the Minister for Education. What is the latest information on new schools set to be delivered in Greenvale over this term of government? In November last year the Andrews Labor government committed to opening six new schools in the Yuroke electorate over the next four years as part of an $850 million statewide investment. It was a pleasure to join the minister recently to open the first of these fantastic new facilities at Aitken Hill Primary School in Craigieburn. The residents of Greenvale have campaigned for years for a local secondary school, and I am thrilled that the Andrews Labor government will deliver it. I look forward to sharing the minister’s response with the very excited residents of Greenvale.

Response:

I thank Ms Spence for her question on the delivery of new schools in Greenvale and share her enthusiasm for the recent opening of Aitken Hill Primary School and welcome of its first students in Term 1, 2019.

The Andrews Labor Government is committed to making ours the Education State.  Central to this is ensuring that we have the right school infrastructure in place to meet the needs of growing communities, and to achieve this the Government is delivering 100 new schools over the next eight years.

The first tranche of 45 new schools will open between 2019 and 2022 with a further 55 new schools to open between 2023 and 2026.

The commitment to building new schools across the Yuroke electorate includes:

  • Aitken Hill Primary School, opened this year
  • Craigieburn South Secondary School, opening 2020
  • Greenvale North West Primary School, opening 2021
  • Merrifield West Primary School, opening 2021
  • Kalkallo Common Primary School, opening 2022
  • Greenvale Secondary School, opening 2022

Thank you for raising this matter with me and for continuing to advocate for education provision in your area.

The Hon James Merlino MP
Deputy Premier
Minister for Education
