Constituency Question: Supporting Parents

Ms SPENCE (Yuroke) (11:38:35) — (13 805) My constituency question is to the Minister for Education. What information can the minister provide on resources available to parents in the Yuroke electorate with children who are starting school in 2018? As the minister knows, the Yuroke electorate is the community of choice for many young families, with a high proportion of young children living in the area, many of whom will start school next year. The start of school is daunting, not just for children but also for their parents. I am sure many local mums and dads would appreciate any information the minister can provide on how they can help to ensure their kids get the most out of their start of school.

Response:

The Education State is about helping kids achieve excellence in learning to enable them to thrive regardless of their background or circumstance.

The Department of Education and Training has a range of information and support available online for teachers, parents and students to help them prepare for the back to school period, especially those starting prep or transitioning from Grade 6 to Year 7. The below website contains information on everything from terms dates, uniforms, transport options and ways parents can support their children’s education. Twelve Government schools in the Yuroke electorate are included in the state-wide initiative, to provide every Victorian prep student attending a Government school with a ‘Prep Bag’ that is filled with information and resources for parents and students.
