Ms SPENCE (Yuroke) (14:53:23): I would like to take this opportunity to note the many students across the Yuroke electorate who have taken on leadership roles at their schools this year. Earlier this year I had the pleasure of presenting student leaders at both Newbury Primary School and Willmott Park Primary School with their badges. Their enthusiasm and pride was great to see, and I thank principals Michelle Bromfield from Newbury primary and Evan Hughes from Willmott Park primary for inviting me to participate in these events. To Emily, Sakkya, Amalia, Ebonie, Julia, Caitlin, Tiasha and Nethuki from Willmott Park Primary School: good luck in your roles as school captains and vice-captains this year. I have no doubt that you will be very successful in these roles, as will all those taking on the role of house captains. At Newbury Primary School I had the pleasure of presenting student empowerment badges to the following students: Khloe E, Sahibzada U, Haniya S, Vardaan K, Chelsea J, Ali D, Avneet U, Romeo T, Connor C, Aaira B, Faris A, Quineva T, Harjot B, Paru R, Ibrahim S, Talia S and Ellie H. These students will have the opportunity to contribute to and provide feedback on decisions about school operations both through the student empowerment team and other more informal mechanisms, as well as organising fundraising activities such as Crazy Hair Day. It is fantastic to see so many young people eager to step up and represent their peers. I congratulate all who were nominated to take on leadership roles, and I know that the 2019 leaders will wear their badges with great pride.
