Families in the outer north are one step closer to accessing integrated healthcare closer to home, with a builder appointed for the construction of the Craigieburn Community Hospital.

Member for Yuroke, Ros Spence MP today announced that Lendlease Building Contractors has been appointed to lead construction of the Craigieburn Community Hospital, which will create and sustain hundreds of local jobs in construction.

The hospital is one of 10 new community hospitals being built in some of the state’s fastest growing areas and funded as part of a $675 million investment by the Andrews Labor Government.

To be operated by Northern Health the Craigieburn Community Hospital will be a small public hospital offering services tailored to local community needs, including urgent care for minor injuries and illnesses, day hospital services including dialysis, paediatric services, allied health, and community mental health services.

Strong links to specialists, community health providers and social support services will improve follow-up treatment and support for those requiring complex care.

The Craigieburn Community Hospital will help take the pressure off nearby major hospitals including the Northern Hospital in Epping – allowing them to focus on critical care, complex health issues and surgeries, emergencies, and trauma.

Delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority, construction of the Craigieburn Community Hospital is expected to get underway later this year and completed in 2024.

Once operational, the ten community hospitals across Victoria will have the capacity to treat at least 114,000 more urgent care patients, 55,000 dialysis treatments and enable more than 100,000 additional allied health sessions each year.

The Community Hospital program will create an estimated 1,900 jobs during planning and construction and deliver more than 1,000 healthcare jobs once completed.
