BUILDING A NEW COMMUNITY HOSPITAL IN CRAIGIEBURN

A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will build a new Craigieburn Community Hospital to provide locals with the care they need closer to home.

When a loved one gets sick, families deserve the peace of mind that the very best care is just around the corner, which is why the Andrews Labor Government has already made record investments to build the world-class hospitals and health services that communities can count on.

Only Labor stands with our doctors, nurses and patients. We’ve already repaired the Liberals’ chronic cuts to health care, investing $3.2 billion building world-class hospitals and providing our health workers the modern equipment they need, but there’s more to do.

It was a Labor Government that delivered the Craigieburn Health Service and it’s only Labor that will build a new Craigieburn Community Hospital – with general medical, specialists and allied health services.

The new Craigieburn Community Hospital will include pharmacy services, women’s health, paediatric care, public dental services, day surgery, day chemotherapy, rehabilitation support and family violence and crisis support services. Families will also be able to access alcohol and drug services and social support services.

It’s all part Labor’s $675 million fund to build and upgrade community hospitals in our suburbs and regional towns.

Community hospitals are there for Victorians when a child falls sick late at night, a teenager breaks their ankle at sport, or a loved one needs dialysis or chemotherapy treatment.

We’ve already established Supercare Pharmacies throughout our suburbs and towns, but only a landmark boost to community hospitals will give patients the local care they deserve – and only Labor will get it done.

Today’s announcement comes on top of Labor’s $162.7 million world-class expansion of the Northern Hospital in Epping, which will give more patients in Melbourne’s north access to the care they need.

All Liberal Governments cut and close. The Kennett Liberal Government closed 12 hospitals across the state and the former Liberal Government slashed funding to health and went to war with our paramedics, causing ambulance response times to blow out to a record low of 73 per cent – the worst on the Australian mainland.

Planning and design work on the Craigieburn Community Hospital will commence next year with construction to start in 2022.
