Craigieburn Secondary to benefit from doctor in 2017

Craigieburn Secondary College students will soon have regular access to a doctor and the healthcare they need at school, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government’s Doctors in Secondary Schools Program.

Member for Yuroke Ros Spence today announced Craigieburn Secondary College will be one of the first 20 Victorian schools getting an on-site doctor through the Australian-first program.

Under the program, adolescent health-trained GPs will be placed at 100 Victorian government secondary schools for up to one day a week, giving more than 70,000 students better access to the healthcare they need to thrive.

Work is now under way at Craigieburn Secondary College to build modern, fit-for-purpose consulting rooms for a school-based GP.

The school will partner with local doctors to provide the program from Term 1 next year, making it easier for students to get healthcare support before health issues affect their studies.

The Andrews Labor Government provided $43.8 million for Doctors in Secondary Schools in the Victorian Budget 2016/17, including $25.8 million for staff and operational costs and $18 million to build consultation rooms on school grounds.

The program is being rolled out progressively across Victoria starting Term 1, 2017.
