Yuroke schools to be upgraded

Students at schools in Craigieburn, Roxburgh Park and Mickleham will soon have better facilities, thanks to a significant boost in school maintenance funding.

Member for Yuroke Ros Spence today announced several local schools will share in $935,000 to upgrade old buildings under the Andrews Labor Government’s Planned Maintenance Program.

The 5 schools in Yuroke electorate that will benefit are: Craigieburn Secondary College, Craigieburn South Primary School, Mickleham Primary School, Roxburgh Rise Primary School, and Willmott Park Primary School.

The Andrews Labor Government supports schools through the Planned Maintenance Program so that they can refurbish, demolish, or replace ageing buildings.

Sixty-five schools shared in $10.8 million under the first round of funding earlier this year, which was provided to complement capital works projects funded at those schools in the Victorian Budget 2016/17.

Today’s announcement means a total of 501 schools will share in a record investment of $52.4 million in school maintenance this year.

A list of schools set to receive upgrades under round two of the Planned Maintenance Program is available at www.schoolbuildings.vic.gov.au/Pages/Schools/Planned-Maintenance-Funding.aspx.

The Labor Government is building the Education State so that every Victorian student gets the opportunity for a great education and every community has access to a great school.

There are now 42 new government schools and hundreds of school upgrades in the construction pipeline following the Government’s record $1.8 billion investment in school infrastructure.

This school building boom will create 4000 construction jobs and ensure all Victorian families have access to a great school no matter where they live.
