Yuroke youth step up against a violence

Banners are now being displayed outside the Craigieburn Leisure Centre as part of the Yuroke Youth Advisory Council’s campaign against violence in our community.

Members of the Youth Advisory Council from Mount Ridley P-12 College, Craigieburn Secondary College, Aitken College and Hume Anglican Grammar worked on the banners with their peers to raise awareness and encourage local residents to think about the impact that violence has in Melbourne’s outer north.

Council members were asked to nominate a significant local issue for an awareness campaign this year, choosing violence as something that reaches most broadly across our community.

Members have also been given the opportunity to discuss and provide feedback on policy making and methods of communications across government throughout this year.

At a broader level, the coming month will include White Ribbon Day on November 25th and the second annual Victoria Against Violence campaign, which starts later this month.

The campaign, an initiative of the Andrews Labor Government, invites individuals, families, organisations, businesses, students and all levels of government in Victoria to stand together to prevent family and gender violence.
