Constituency Question: Multicultural Affairs

Ms SPENCE (Yuroke): My constituency question is to the Minister for Multicultural Affairs. What is the latest information that the minister can provide on upcoming grant opportunities that may benefit residents from culturally diverse backgrounds living in the Yuroke electorate? As the minister knows, the Yuroke electorate and Melbourne’s outer north is home to one of most multicultural, diverse and vibrant communities in our state. Support from the Andrews Labor government helps to ensure that residents in my community can continue to celebrate their rich cultural backgrounds. I look forward to hearing from the minister and sharing his response with Yuroke residents.

Response:

The Victorian Government is committed to supporting its diverse and vibrant multicultural communities through a variety of grants programs.

These programs facilitate different projects, events and activities for Victoria’s multicultural and multifaith communities. They support communities to celebrate and share their cultures; build social and cultural connections and partnerships; improve multicultural infrastructure; and build up the skills of multicultural communities.

There are currently two multicultural grants programs open to support community infrastructure projects, with funding between $10,000 and $100,000 available. These programs are the Multicultural Community Infrastructure Fund and a dedicated Indian Community Infrastructure Fund.

In early 2020, the Multicultural Festivals and Events program will open to support multicultural and multifaith festivals and events to be held between 1 July 2020 and 31 December 2020.

More information regarding the catalogue of multicultural grants available is accessible on the Victorian Government website, under Multicultural Grants.
