Constituency Question: Mickleham, Craigieburn & Somerton Roads

Ms SPENCE (Yuroke) — (8128) My constituency question is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. The minister visited my electorate in May to hear from local residents, representatives of Aitken College and the Hume City Council regarding their concerns and views about the need to duplicate Mickleham, Craigieburn and Somerton roads. As the minister knows, each of these roads serves as a major arterial for residents in the northern suburbs, particularly in areas that are experiencing rapid growth, like Craigieburn, Greenvale and Roxburgh Park. Residents rely on these roads each day to get to and from work, school and community facilities. The minister committed to following up on the issues raised and to getting back to the community with an update. What information can the minister now provide to the constituents of Yuroke in regard to the duplication of these roads?

Response:

VicRoads is working closely with the Hume City Council on various transport initiatives. These include the investigation of the Craigieburn Road corridor between the Hume Highway and the future Outer Metropolitan Ring Road, and the Mickleham Road corridor from Somerton Road to Donnybrook Road. These investigations will inform the future traffic, pedestrian, bicycle and public transport requirements for these roads that will need to be accommodated in their future upgrades.

VicRoads adjusted the timing for the traffic signals at the Mickleham Road/Dellamore Boulevard intersection to improve traffic conditions for motorists at the Aitken College entrance.

Recent investigations have considered the opportunities for the State Government to collaborate with private developers who have existing obligations to upgrade sections of Craigieburn Road between Hanson Road and Aitken Boulevard. This work is ongoing.

Hon Luke Donnellan MP, Minister for Roads and Road Safety
