CONSTRUCTION COMPLETE AT KEELONITH PRIMARY SCHOOL
Families in Melbourne’s growing northern suburbs are another step closer to having a new local school thanks to the Victorian Government, with construction of Keelonith Primary School now complete.
Member for Yuroke Ros Spence today announced that works are now finished at Keelonith Primary School ahead of students commencing in Term 1, 2021.
The new school in Greenvale is one of 14 new schools opening in 2021.
The school’s facilities include a library and modern learning buildings with adaptable spaces. Students will also enjoy ample indoor and outdoor spaces to stay active – including a performing arts and physical education building with a competition-grade court, outdoor multipurpose courts, and a sports oval.
Keelonith Primary School has been designed as a Supported Inclusion School, to provide accessible and inclusive education for all students – including students with disabilities. The school includes facilities such as small learning and sensory spaces to support student learning, as well as accessible bathroom facilities and a fitness room for physical therapy.
The new school will also have a kindergarten next door, ending the dreaded double drop-off for local families.
Keelonith Primary School (pronounced keel-on-ith) was chosen as the school name following community consultation and discussions with Geographic Names Victoria, with consideration given to factors including public interest, relevance to the local area, and the consideration of local Indigenous languages.
Keelonith is from the Woi-wurrung language, as spoken by the Wurundjeri people, and means ‘hear and understand’.
The Victorian Government is building the Education State with an unprecedented $7.2 billion investment that is not only creating 7,500 jobs but improving, upgrading and building schools to ensure that every community can access a great local school where students are supported to achieve their best.
